Cistercian Nuns

For many years is founded in the the Sanctuary a small monastic community, and unique in Portugal, of Cistercian nuns. This community, like any community inspired by rule of St. Benedict, practice the “Ora et Labora”.

His monastic tradition comes from the VI century with Our Father St. Benedict, whose are heiresses. Your Founding Fathers, St. Robert, Saint Alberic and St. Stephen, in 1098, wanted to return to the primitive practice of the Rule of St. Benedict, whose pillars are: prayer, manual labor and spiritual reading, in a quiet environment but with an intense fraternal life. With them was born the Cistercian Order in France. The Cistercian Order is Mariana and had in St. Bernard of Clairvaux, a great serving and «singer» of the Virgin Mary. St. Bernard, advisor of Kings and Popes, great mystic of the XII century, has left us a great legacy of spiritual writings. It was the last doctor of the Church. He gave a big boost to the Order although he was not the founder.
